Chester is located in Randolph County, Illinois, and according to the 2010 census the population was 8,586. Itis the county seat and is located about 60 miles southeast of St. Louis. It is found on the bluffs of the Mississippi River Valley. Chester is known as the home of Popeye and holds an annual Popeye’s Picnic and Parade. This community is known for its four seasons of which spring is the wettest. Summers are typically hot and humid, and winters see snow and cold temperatures.
Chester is home to a variety of attractions that may appeal to residents or visitors. The Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site is located along the Mississippi River, and Cole Memorial Park, Seagar Memorial Park, and the Fults Hill Prairie Nature Preserve area also located in Chester. The Turkey Bluffs State Fish-Wildlife Area is another great recreational spot in the area.
